PRE ORDER STATUS:PREE-ORDERS WILL SHIP DECEMBER 7, 2013
We are often asked for rhymes and fairy tales written for Muslim children, and our response is always the same: “There’s nothing published in English that is comparable to our Western classics.”
There wasn’t, that is, until we stumbled across the rhymes that T. J. Winter had written for his children when they were young. Upon discovering them, we knew they had to be published with a style and grace that would let them stand on their own as a CLASSIC for all children.
Children love rhymes, and because they have not yet reached the age where they think within constructs such as ideologies, formal dogma or other abstract notions, the narrative context in which the rhymes take place is irrelevant. What is significant is what a “CLASSIC” rhyme has to offer a child.
Children’s classics are priceless for several reasons: they introduce children to a rich vocabulary of wonderful words, which the authors deploy with razor-like precision; the sentences contain captivating constructions and striking turns of phrase; and they teach children moral lessons such as temperance, humility, and kindness.
What children gain from reading these rhymes is invaluable: the simple pleasure of being read to, a rich vocabulary, a capacity to use every word with a nuanced accuracy, and the ability (which will naturally be far beyond the modern standards of language usage) to put their thoughts into eloquent expressions of their inner worlds. Furthermore, they begin to understand a right action from a reprehensible action, and that a reprehensible action will always leave one in a shambles. A right action, in contrast, will invariably plant a sense of peace and calm in one’s heart, and it is these seeds we germinate for our children when they are young that we hope will become their moral compass throughout their lives and determine for them a life of contentment and fulfillment. For happiness, we know, is found in LIVING A GOOD LIFE, or to use the language of the classics, a “virtuous” life.
And that’s why we think these rhymes are so fascinating, and why we wanted to put them into a beautiful book for your children to enjoy and look back on one day, when they are grown, as a memorable part of their childhood. May you share many happy moments together as you turn the page and enter the world of MONTMORENCY’S BOOK OF RHYMES.
Educating children to become intelligent, ethical and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
