This unique event entitled "The Spiritual Rumi" was held at the Hilton Hotel Grand Ballroom in Fremont, CA, USA.
Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, executive director of the American Institute of Islamic History and Culture, and author of Islam and the Global History, and What Makes Us Human, delivers an eloquent historical portrait of Maulana Rumi setting his sublime poems against a cacophony of political turmoil, dissension and unrests in the then Muslim world.
In his talk, Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi points out that in order to under- stand the love Rumi embodied in his poetry we need to taste it, to experience it in the heart. The heart has to be prepared for love and one way of preparing our hearts to enjoy love of the Divine is to recite the Divine Names. With this, Shaykh Muhammad leads a willing audience in invoking the name "Allah" several times. The soul experiences a pleasure in remembering the name of Allah. The result on the heart of the invocator, if this is done on a regular basis and under the guidance of a spiritual master, leads to a richer experience of Divine love.
