He was so advanced in his knowledge of jurisprudence and understanding of the complexities of legal analysis, that he was appointed Minister of Education and Minister of Justice until finally serving as Vice President to the first President of Mauritania. Today, Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah is an accomplished author with several widely distributed publications to his name and has delivered countless lectures throughout the world; an expert in Islamic legal methodology (usul al-fiqh), he has written about and spoken extensively on the jurisprudence of Muslim minorities living in the West (al-fiqh al-aqalliyat).
