In these lectures, given in the Holy City of Madina in the summer of 2008, Abdal Hakim Murad speaks about the beauty of the Prophet Muhammad, Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallim. He shows that in our age of fear and aimlessness, when human beings of all races suffer from stress and spiritual pain, we are in greater need then ever before of a guide who can show us what it truly means to be human. In every aspect of life, from the political to the devotional, and in every human transaction, the Holy Prophet, Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallim, shows us life in its fullness. The lectures reveal countless dimensions of the Prophet's perfection, not as an abstract concept, but as a living model, inviting us to follow his example, to live and serve others in a state of full spiritual awakeness. The recordings take the form of a detailed commentary on Book Twenty of the Revival of the Religious Sciences (Ihya' Ulum al-Din), by Imam al-Ghazali (d.1111). This book, entitled The Courtesies of Life and the Qualities of Prophethood, is dedicated to the celebration of the perfections of the Holy Prophet, Sallallaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallim. It considers his love for his Lord, as expressed in every action of his life, and every state of his heart, and shows how the details of his life, even in everyday matters of food, drink, dress, and the way he walked and smiled, and his forgiving and mild nature, were expressions of his constant and loving remembrance of his Creator.
ABDAL HAKIM MURAD has studied in Cambridge, Cairo, Jeddah and Istanbul. He is currently the Director of the Cambridge Muslim College, England. He appears regularly on BBC Radio's 'Thought for the Day', and is the author of several books, including, most recently, Bombing Without Moonlight. He is also the Executive Director of the film The Alchemist of Happiness, an award-winning documentary on the life of al-Ghazali.
